Celebrity Names

Celebrities are often inspiration for baby names, dog names, and even cat names! Dogs named after Chrissy Teigen, Kanye West, Keanu Reeves, and Jay-Z are on the rise in 2020. Even Betty White continues to be a trending dog name!

The names of some famous couples like Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, along with Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have also become more frequent. One of the most significant increases was Lizzo, whose name is trending up 458% from last year. Also, dogs named after Taylor Swift are up 92%.

In honor of Kobe Bryant, the name Kobe increased by 16% and Mamba increased by 111%. His daughter Gianna’s name is also trending up 20%.

Cats often get celebrity names that are puns, but in 2020, it’s a trend for dogs too! Sherlock Bones, Karl Barx, Bark Wahlberg, Ozzy Pawsborn, and Winston Furchill are all trending.

Of course, not all celebrities can be popular with the canines. Dogs named after John Legend, Kim Kardashian, and Beyonce are all less common this year.

Names from the Media

A lot of people spent time binge-watching shows and playing video games during quarantine. So, it makes sense that their dogs’ names would reflect that.

Geralt from The Witcher increased by 9,308% this year, making it the most trending dog name! Other honorable mentions in TV are Mando from The Mandalorian, which is up 2,658%, and Carol Baskin from Tiger King, which is up 46%. All the characters from Friends, except for Joey, also increased in 2020.

Characters from video games, such as Midas from Fortnite, Hanzo from Overwatch, and Shep from Animal Crossing have also increased in popularity.
